Who Dat - It has several uses from what I witnessed. It is sometimes used as a greeting - Who is that?; but mostly is a noun referring to another New Orlean citizen; and loudly chanted by the New Orleans Saints football team fans as support during the game. The Sainsts fans really love their team!
Wherey'at - Short for Where are you at? Self explanatory. I loved this one quite a bit, so have adopted it into my conversation on the phone, when I need to ask that question. Also spoken with emphasis - Wherey'at!?. This one was hardly spoken anymore but there is a local magazine that adopted that name.
All'right - This one is used very frequently and in a couple of occassions! First, it is used as a greeting, where the intonation is rather flat "Aww-riiite." Imagine passing someone on the street and saying "Wassup". Another occasion is when asking another if they are okay. "Al-riiight?" with the intonation going upwards. If in the positive or giving a default social answer, you repeat the same word with the intonation downwards to indicate that you are okay. This gets asked very often as the culture is very warm. Sometimes the asker will say the same thing with the intonation downwards to indicate acceptance of the situation.
What'cha got goin' on? - Although used everywhere, it is used very frequently to inquire on what someone is up to; or what they have planned for the day. I hear it multiple times a day, even when the answer is known and needs a quick update.
That is it for this post. I am trying to make the posts shorter and more frequent so that it is not such a high cost to do a posting, nor take up so much time, at a time. Until next time, I am in Gratitude!
